How Low Can PG&E Stock Go When The Risk Is Its Own?
PG&E (PCG) trades at about $12.94, the bottom of its 52-week range and about 32% below its high. Over the past twelve months it lost 12.2% while the S&P 500 gained 18.5%. That gap did not come from a market crash. And in market shocks since 2007, its deepest fall includes a one-day break in PG&E's own price data.

Sempra (SRE) Stock May Be About Right After Fresh LNG Deal
Sempra has delivered a solid 45.6% gain over the past 5 years, yet its recent share pullback and new long-term projects put fresh focus on what investors are really paying for its earnings today. With the stock around US$81.20 at the last close, the key issue is how that price lines up with the cash the utility business is actually generating. A 45.6% return over 5 years has rewarded long term holders. This raises the question of whether current earnings are carrying most of that performance...

PG&E (PCG) has lost about 13% over the past twelve months while the S&P 500 gained 17%. The California utility now trades at 9.5 times earnings against an S&P 500 median of 22.9, the kind of gap value buyers hunt for. So what has the market marked down: the utility, or the state it operates in.
