Ondine Biomedical CTO: LANTERN results 'change the entire nature of the company'
Ondine Biomedical Inc (AIM:OBI, OTC:OBIMF) President and CTO Nicolas Loebel spoke with Proactive's Stephen Gunnion about the company's photodisinfection technology, top-line results from its pivotal phase III LANTERN trial, and the commercial opportunity for Steriwave. The 5,188-patient phase III LANTERN study, conducted across 18 major US and Canadian hospitals, showed a 40.5% lower risk of 30-day surgical site infections. Loebel said the findings "change the entire nature of the company," highlighting a favourable safety profile with no device-related serious adverse events. He discussed the significance of 14 HCA Healthcare hospitals participating in the trial and the potential pathway to the US market. Steriwave remains investigational in the US and subject to FDA approval, with Ondine planning to take the full data package forward to the FDA, having already secured Fast Track and Qualified Infectious Disease Product designations. Loebel also outlined Ondine's commercial activities outside the US and the broader potential for photodisinfection in areas including intensive care, describing a recurring-revenue model combining reusable light devices with patient-specific consumables, with growth potentially coming from both new hospital adoption and increased treatments within each hospital.
